I'm running scared...

You may or may not know that I was a Journalism major in College. I've been involved in writing since the 10th grade and after reading about this kid? I feel like a slacker! He's a ten-year-old kid from a local elementary school named Damon Weaver that has already had the chance to interview basketball players and politicians (including Joe Biden, vice-president-elect). Check him out in these youtube clips:

He's a little awkward at times actually asking the questions, but he rocks those voice-overs. With a little more experience, I think this kid is going to be the next big thing in news. He's already off to a great start. Especially if he gets that Obama interview he's trying for. Good luck to him! I'll let you know if he gets the big one!

Fairchild Tropical Botantic Gardens

The Gardens is holding a great art exhibit through May 31 (I know... it seems there's a lot of artsy stuff here!) centering on the work of Mark di Suvero. The artist has five different pieces on display and there will be plenty of work from others as well. And let's not forget the gardens, housing the largest palm tree collection in the country. If you want to learn more about it, read the associated press story about it.

Beautiful, isn't it? That's just a little taste of what you're in for there. So, who is gonna be heading out there? Have you already been? I wanna hear stories! Until next time... take care!

More Artsy Fun....

This Friday, the Second Annual Artist Invasion is going to be held in St. Petersburg. If you're going to be in the area and wanna learn more about it, check out the story here. The funny thing about this is, it's supposed to be related to Art Basel, which I just told you guys about. Pretty nice timing, huh? Anyway... check out the information and let me know if you attend and share some stories from the event if you like. I'd love to hear about your experience.

"Super" Building.....

Hello, everyone!! I just wrote an article on the Superbowl for one of our websites (link coming shortly) talking about how Tampa's hosting and the different projects they do. Well, they just announced something cool today. The NFL, working with Habitat for Humanity and other organizations, will be working to get enough money to build 5 new houses the same week as the game. If you can believe this one, they plan to start one of the homes the same morning as the game and finish it before the game even starts.

If you want to read more and maybe get involved, check out the story here.

And now... something for the kids....

I just brought you some info on a nightclub party that's great if you're 18 or over. But what about the younger people in your life? I was just reading about a couple cool things that are going on at Jungle Island.

They have animal encounters where you actually get to interact with the wildlife after learning about them from an animal trainer. How cool is that? I wish more things like that had been going on when I was a kid. Right now, they're still promoting the Lemur Encounters and the Chillin Penguin Encounters. It'll cost you $45and all kids have to be accompanied by an adult. Check with them before going, because there is an age limit on the Lemur show. Their MySpace page and contact info is located here.

Need Something To Do Tonight?

Don't worry, I got you covered. I saw an announcement on MySpace that Club Buster recently started a Sunday Night party called Prestige. It's being held from 9-2 AM and happens every week. Need some more information? You can reach them at 964-673-4690. You have to be 21 to drink, but you can still get in if you're 18.

Art Basel

If you live in, or are planning to be in, the Miami area this week you might wanna check out Art Basel. It's an annual event that celebrates Art and Music and also has other cool stuff going on. I haven't had the chance to go myself, but I've written announcements about it before and it sounds pretty cool. It's also being billed as a free event and, if I remember right, there are supposed to be kid-friendly things to do as well. If you want more information, check out this article or their website.

Also, check out the video below. It should give you a feel for what the event will be like. There's also this link to another one. Enjoy and see ya next time!!

Quick link...

After I finished my post I started browsing local news sites and came across this page telling people about local events. These are listed as happening in St. Petersburg.

If you're in the Tampa area, check out this article. It's about a new social networking site that connects people living in the area. According to the article, the different parts of the network operate similarly to Facebook.

Well, that's about it for now. Take care and I'll see you next time. Hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

This Day in History....

There's a youtube channel that fills people in on events that happened at Walt Disney World I just discovered and I think it's really cool. Check out November 28 below....

I think it's cool getting a glimpse into the past like that and seeing how much things can change. So what do you all think? Is this a cool thing or do you think it's boring? Be sure to post your thoughts below. I'd love to read them. Take care and see you next time!

Local Acts....

Hello, out there!! I thought I'd stop by the tell you about a couple cool local acts. The first one is AJ (the R&B General). His music is a bit hip-hop as well and I love the track "Solid". Let me know what you all think. He's also won contests on BET's 106 and Park.

The next back is Wonderful Johnson. They have more of a rock/alternative sound to their music. I love their song "Open the Door", which sounds like it came out of the 70's. What tracks do you like? Comment and let me know! According to their MySpace linked above, they'll be performing in town at The Blue Monkey on November 26th. Check their page out to get more info about the show.

Well, that's all for now. Take care and see you next time with more local news and video!

Traveling with Pets....

Vacation planning can get really stressful. There is so much to think about, that we often overlook some of the most important details. Especially when we're traveling with pets. Before you load the pets into the car, consider some of these tips.

Animals are like people, with distinct personalities and temperaments. If your pet is easily upset by changes in their routine, you might want to consider having a friend or family member care for them at home. If this is not a possibility, make sure during your trip to stick as close to the animal's normal routine as possible. You might also want to pack a couple of favorite toys or pillows to add more familiarity. You might consider a sweater, as well, just in case they have to be separated from you for a bit while using public transportation. Having something with your scent on it will help with any separation issues.

The first thing that should be on your agenda when planning your trip with a pet is a visit to the Veterinarian. The vet can prescribe medications that can help keep your pet calm during travel, as well check for any problems that may need to be dealt with first. You can also refill any medications they are already on so you’ll have enough to take along with you. Getting current on their shots is also important, especially if you are using a form of public transportation or you are crossing state/country borders. Don't leave the vet's office without checking into one more thing: microchips. Microchips are quick and easy to implant, done with a needle right there in the vet's office. Most of the time, the animal doesn't even know anything is happening. Implanting one of these into your dog or cat will greatly increase your chances of getting your pet back if they get loose. The microchip includes your pet's name, vet information, medical information and other important facts. When a lost animal is brought into a shelter or vet office, they are scanned with a hand-held scanner that pulls up all the information. Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to mail in the forms you will need to fill out to make the chip active. Also, don't forget to ask your vet if they have any recommendations in case your pet finds itself in need of care while out of town. If your vet cannot help you, make sure to look up that information yourself. Thanks to the internet, you should not have any trouble finding listings. You are not done yet. Before leaving the Vet, make sure you ask about Heartworm prevention and flea/tick protection. This is more than just a good idea, in some places it is required to protect the local animal population. Now, you are ready to move on to the next phase of trip planning: shelter.

Anyone who has moved with a pet knows that finding a place that will accept your pets can be difficult. Your vet can be a good source of information for places that allow pets. Some will also board your animals just in case you have decided to leave them at home. Another great resource is petswelcome.com. It has listings for pet-friendly hotels, beaches and parks. You can also exchange ideas with other pet owners through their message board or read about international animal policies.

Your best bet when traveling with pets is to go by car or plane. Many bus and train companies do not allow animals at all. If you do go by car, take a hint from the sites out there and get a special harness to secure your dog in the car. Also, make sure you have the dog’s harness or leash readily available, as your dog will need an occasional pit stops to get out and take a short walk. Cat carriers are another essential item for your check list. If you travel by plane, make sure you discuss their policies regarding pets in advance so there are no surprises.

No place recommends this, but if you absolutely must leave your dog in the car for any reason, make sure it is for a very short amount of time and leave a couple of windows open a little bit and park in the shade to keep them cool. Many animals (and kids) die each year from being left in a car that was too hot.

As with any trip, you do not want to wait too long to make these plans. If you pets had to get shots, some places require you to do it in a certain time frame before your arrival. You also do not want to find yourself without a place to stay during part or all of your trip because you waited too long to reserve a room at a pet-friendly place. Following these simple travel tips will ensure a safe and pleasant trip for you and your pets, wherever you decide to go.

Some Great Videos...

Hello! I'm back and today I wanna share some videos with you that will let you get more of a taste of Florida. The first one shows off the scenery as you drive down South Beach. Another one lets you see Ocean Drive and the Everglades National Park.

Hope you enjoy them! I'll be sharing some more videos from the same person who did the second one soon. They have several great travel videos to help you out when coming here. Here's the link to their site. I love watching videos like this. There is some much of Florida I haven't seen, so it's cool getting the chance to learn about what else is out there. Speaking of- I'll also be filling you in on some of the events coming to the area as well. Take care and don't forget to visit us on MySpace!

Some Helpful Advice....

Being Savvy is about much more then watching your bank account, checking out your mechanic, or looking for the best doctor. It's about knowing how to look out for your spiritual and emotional well-being as well. One of the most important ways to do this is by knowing when to walk away from a toxic person or situation.

We've all been there- you have a friend that suddenly hasn't got the time for you unless they need something, a family member who is over critical or controlling, or a significant other who is treating you badly. Oftentimes, we put up with bad behavior from people because of blood ties or good memories from the past. Sadly, these things blind us to the truth of the situation: we need to say goodbye.

Removing yourself from the influence of a toxic person can be one of the hardest things you'll ever do, especially in a family situation. We've heard "blood is
thicker then water" so many times, it becomes ingrained in us. This makes us feel like we "owe" them our loyalty no matter what, often at the cost of our own
well-being.

How do you know if it's time to cut someone off? There are many signs. If the thought of visiting the person makes you nervous or upset, chances are you should be staying away. Similarly, if you find yourself feeling physically drained or tense while around the person, that's another sign. These physical symptoms are your body's way of telling you something's not right, and you need to listen to it. When you tell someone about something that's important to you or go to them for advice and they can't manage to show an interest, you're better off finding someone else to go to. Same goes for a person who can't respond to anything you say or do without being negative or making it all about them. Obviously, if someone ever lays a hand on you in a fit of anger, get out.

So, you've taken stock of your relationships and you've realized there is someone in your life you could do without. What do you do now? One of the best things is to go cold turkey. Cut off all contact. Each time you answer the phone or reply to that e-mail, you're allowing them to step in and exert a bad influence on you. This is especially true in the case of a fair weather friend. If they can't bother to pick up the phone once in a while or send you an e-mail unless they want something from you, don't bother trying to initiate contact. There isn't a point to it, and you have no obligation to, even if you may feel you do. They have made it clear how they view your relationship, so trying to force anything else will do nothing but frustrate you and leave you more hurt and confused then you already were. If you find that you absolutely must respond to something they said, let it all out in a letter and then destroy it. That way, you can purge yourself while not stirring things up any further.

Sometimes, the cold turkey method isn't possible. Maybe you live too close to the person to make sure you never come into contact with them. Maybe they're a family member you're inevitably going to see when you go to that holiday gathering or birthday celebration. In these cases, it's best to say a polite hello and try to remove yourself from their presence as quickly as possible. When you're around the person, do not volunteer information. If they ask something, keep your answers short and to the point.

The stock in trade of a toxic person is mind games, so you may want to develop some of your own mind tricks. Try to find something else close by to focus on and tune them out. It doesn’t always work, but can be helpful. If the person starts asking rude questions or being too invasive, try throwing out a polite “why would you like to know?” or “I don’t want to discuss that.” You may also want to prepare to be around them ahead of time by mentally psyching yourself up with some affirmations or promising yourself a reward later for getting through the encounter calmly. If all else fails, make sure to seek out the help of a professional who can help you develop other tools for dealing with them. They can also help you to deal with any of the negative feelings the person in question has ingrained in you.

Removing a toxic person from your life is one of the hardest things you'll ever do.... but it will also be one of the best things you can do for yourself. Allowing
yourself to be torn down by someone is doing no one, including them, any good, so don't just sit back and take it. Make a clean break now and save yourself the
stress and the possible negative effects to your health that come with it.

Event Watch

Hello, again. Hope everyone’s having a good week so far. I thought I’d stop by and share a few cool events with you. The first is a very family friendly thing: Santa’s Enchanted Forest. For those who don’t know, it’s an annual Christmas-themed carnival. This year, it’s running from November 6th until January 4th, so you still have plenty of time to check it out. They’re also open from 5PM until 12 AM. Check out this video on youtube to get an idea of what the event is like:

If you decide to go, the event’s located at 7900 SW Bird Rd in Miami. You can get more information by calling (305) 559-9689. I definitely recommend it… I used to love going to this when I was a kid and there’s plenty there to keep even older visitors happy. To me, it’s part of the Christmas tradition.

If you’re looking for something a little less kid-friendly, UVA is going to be holding a Ladies Night every week starting on November 12 and running at least until May 13th. It’s a dance-electronica kind of club. Not a fan of electronica? Don’t worry. I’ll be getting together a list soon of other clubs and what they play. UVA is located at 2626 Ponce De Leon Blvd in Coral Gables. If you want more information about the club and Ladies Night, call (305) 476-8111.

Finally… I have a little something for people who love art and history. The Historical Museum of Southern Florida is going to be holding an exhibition called “Tropical Dreams: A People’s History of South Florida”. That start tomorrow (the 12th) and runs through February 18th. The Museum’s located at 101 W Flagler Street in Miami and can be reached by phone at (305) 375-1492. So, there ya go… some fun events happening around here. There’s plenty more where that came from, too. Stay tuned and I’ll fill ya in on them. Take care and don’t forget to comment and share your stories if you go to them. Also, stop by and say hi to us on MySpace.

Hotel Watch

Good evening, everyone! I thought today I'd fill you in on one of the many hotels there are in Florida to give you an idea of places to stay if you're a tourist thinking of coming here. Tonight, I'm talking about the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel

Since its creation in 2003, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino has positioned itself as a major force in South Florida night life. The grand building, located at 1 Seminole Way in Hollywood, is home to many big name concerts, comedy acts, magic and more. Whatever you are looking for, the Hard Rock will most likely have it. In the past year, it’s gotten even better.

Recently, the Hotel added Paradise. Paradise is made up of several different clubs and features a variety of entertainment. The unique buildings feature Improv comedy, Vegas and Broadway-influenced acts and a Jazz club. In addition, guests can visit an Irish-style pub or check out the Dueling Pianos club.

The biggest draw, of course, is gambling. If you can name it, The Seminole Hard Rock will most likely have it. Housed in a building that is over 100,000 square-feet, the casino is open 24 hours a day. Guests can choose between a variety of poker tables and video poker. There is also Cleopatra, Spam, Wheel of Fortune and many other popular games. The Hard Rock doesn’t just pay out big to its winners. It also gives them their fifteen minutes of fame by
posting their names and pictures on the website.

Still haven’t found what you want? Keep looking, because the Hard Rock also features many shops and restaurants. One of the most popular restaurants is the Council Oak. The red and mahogany-decorated establishment features steak, seafood and fine wines. Steak lovers will enjoy being able to choose their own cuts from the butcher shop on premises. You can even get a taste of Native American Culture with the kids by visiting the Seminole Okalee Indian Village. The Village features arts and crafts, animal shows and a shop where you can pick up souvenirs. You can even reserve space at the Village for parties.

Of course, no look at the Hard Rock would be complete without discussing the Hotel area. The 4-star rated building has 500 rooms packed with amenities. Some of these amenities include stereos and computers with internet access. There are also three phones in each room, making it a good choice for those on working vacations. Don’t worry about packing little extras for your trip, because the Hard Rock has you covered. Each room features bathrobes, irons and hair
dryers available to guests. Rooms also feature spacious bathrooms and safes to store valuables. In addition, each bed is made with Egyptian cotton linens and features maid service. Its location is another benefit to staying at the Hard Rock. You are only a stone’s throw from all the wonderful things Miami and Fort Lauderdale have to offer.

Whether you are a family on vacation, a couple looking for romance or single and looking to have a great time, the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is sure to have something you will love. For more information about the Hard Rock, visit the website at www.seminolehardrock.com or call 954-327-7625. Reservations can be made through the website or by calling 1-800-937-0010.

Some stress relief tips....

Well, now that the election season is over, you might need a little help relaxing. I'm here to give you some tips about how to use meditation to reduce stress. Meditation has a reputation as being something yogis somewhere do or former hippies. Over the past few years, though, it’s become much more acceptable. People all over are discovering not only spiritual benefits, but health benefits as well. You don’t have to sit around cross-legged chanting “Om” to get the benefits of meditation. There are many ways to join in on this popular practice.

First... let's talk check list. Here are some things you might want to consider getting together when developing a meditation routine.

  • Library Card (optional)

  • DVD rental service (optional)

  • A quiet place to perform your meditation

  • Comfortable clothing

  • Relaxing music or Meditation CDs/DVDs (Optional)

  • Meditation BooksInternet Access (optional)

Now... here are some guidelines to consider that will help you develop a great routine for you:

1) First, do all the research into the various forms of meditation you can. Borrow/Buy books, research the topic online or ask people you know who meditate about their practices. The more research you do into the topic, the better you’ll understand the different ways to meditate and find the method that’s right for you.

2) Once you have finally settled on a method, develop a schedule for it. You can choose to schedule your meditation time in the morning when you get up, in the afternoon or before bed- whatever time works best for you. You can also choose to devote only a few minutes each day or a longer time several times a week.

3) Once you have figured out what practice works best for you and what times you want to meditate, you’re ready to find a place to meditate. You can choose to meditate in your backyard, a quiet room in your house or even join a class. The most important part is finding a place where you’re comfortable and can fully devote yourself to it.

4) Being comfortable is the key to any meditation session. Make sure your clothes are comfortable and you’re sitting in a way where you will not feel any pain or other discomfort. Tight pants or a numb foot will keep you from losing yourself in the moment and you’ll end your session feeling as bad or worse than when you began.

5) Be consistent. Meditating can be a lot like working out. We know it’s good for us, but we can get distracted by other things and let it slide. To make sure you keep it up, give yourself some kind of reward every time you finish a session. When your tired or busy, a reward can give you the push you need to tough it out.

Here are some other things to keep in mind:

1) Give yourself time. You might not feel the benefits of meditation instantly, but you will if you keep at it.

2) If a certain type of meditation starts making you uncomfortable, find a new one.

3) Start slowly with your routine. Give it a few minutes a day at first, building up to longer sessions over time.
That's all for today. Be sure to come back through out the week, though, because I'll be sharing some Florida election results, helpful articles and local information. In the meantime, stop by and see us on MySpace.

A little of this, a little of that.

Hello, everyone. So, is everyone ready for Halloween? Be sure to stop by our MySpace and catch up with us if you need a nice ride to get to some of those parties I mentioned. For those of you out there who are gonna go trick-or-treating in the neighborhood with the kids, here's a good site that provides some safety tips for kids. There are also links to cheap costumes, urban myths about candy and other cool stuff.

On a more serious note, I was browsing local news and came across this story about a woman in need of some blood. She's a firefighter with a rare blood disorder that could kill her should she get a cold. Here's the link to get more information and find out where you can get tested to see if you're a match.

Finally... here's a real heart warmer. A man had brought his dog to play with his daughter's dogs and the dog turned up missing. Later on, he got a call saying the dog had been identified via microchip by a vet.... in Chicago! Click here to find out how the dog's getting home...

Do you have talent?

Florida has a place to show it. I just got a notice that the Le Pavillon club in North Miami is having open mike nights! They're opening it up to musicians, comedians, poets and art- how cool is that? You can find their myspace page and get more info here. If you go, be sure to get video of it and link us to it in the comments. Local talent has to be seen, right?

Also... I was browsing youtube today and came across this video from the Everglades Safari Park.

Wow does that take me back. It's nice watching on the video, but it's nothing compared to actually being there and seeing all the beauty up close. I remember, though, there was one downside to the airboats- they are loud! Thankfully, they were giving away earplugs for people to use. Have you been there? Comment and share your stories. I guess that's about it for now. I'll see you all soon! Take care and head on over to see us on MySpace, too!

Another "what were they thinking"....

So, first a lady opts to go to jail rather than pay 7 bucks for a meal. Now? A couple guys are in some serious trouble for using a BB gun while stealing some spray deodorant. Seriously... is Old Spice really that great? Just shell out the cash already....

By the way.... early voting is underway in South Florida, so get out there and make your choice now! It'll save ya a lot of hassle on November 4th.

Finally... I found this cool video showing off some of the animals at Sea World. I remember going there when I was a kid and being in awe of them all. Especially the whales. Check it out below and look for other cool videos in the days and weeks to come. Take care!!!

A promise is a promise....

And I am one who keeps my word. That said, I spent quite a bit of time today going over local halloween events and here are some suggestions for those of you who don't yet know what you're doing on Oct. 31st:

Family Friendly Events:

The Little Farm Pumpkin Patch has been going on since the 13th and will stay open through Halloween night. You can eat pumpkin and your kids can ride ponies. For more creative people, you'll be able to make your very own scarecrows. It's located at 22400 SW 134th Ave in Miami.

MetroZoo is once again holding MetroBoo for families to enjoy halloween. The best part? Kids 12 and under can take part in a costume contest. Visit the site for more info and to call ahead if you want to check on hours and admission prices.

Halls of Terror Haunted House is being held now at the The Super Wheels Skating Center until November 1st. They charge 13.00 to get in, but that price gives you unlimited skating as well. Call (305) 270-3986 if you want more information about it.

Finally, there's the Early Evening of Spooky Adventures at Gold Coast Railroad Museum. There's going to be storytelling, trick or treating and other cool stuff. You can get more details if you call 305-253-0063.

Clubs and Stuff that Might Be Too Much for the Kids:

Halloween Horror Nights is held at Universal Orlando and is a pretty popular event. Some horror movie characters are featured there, too. I know a person who'd want to be there just to see Jason from Friday the 13th. :)

Confession Secrets Unmasked is a club party that features free drinks until 1AM and lets women in free. They'll also have Black Chiney Willy Chin there to provide some entertainment. Call Damion at 954-673-4690 to get some more information.

Club Deep will have their Hallowen 08 party from 8PM until 2AM. They're located at 621 Washington Ave in Miami. Check the link or call 305-532-1509 to find out more.

Finally, check out Spirits Halloween Party for great costumes and a wild time. They're at 5729 Seminole Way in Hollywood (The Hard Rock). You can call 954 327-9094 to get more information about the party.

Well, that's about it. Hope this helps y'all figure out what to do on Halloween night. As for me? I'll be catching up on some scary movies at home this year and enjoying some spooky tunes. In the spirit (ha, ha) of the night, I'll leave ya with the video "Thriller" which will proably always be my favorite video at halloween no matter what. Enjoy!!! And don't forget to visit us on MySpace or check the site if you need transportation.

And over in the "what were they thinking" category...

A Fort Pierce resident was arrested and sent to jail because she refused to pay for her meal. A whole 7 dollars and change. I don't know about the rest of you out there, but I'd be pretty embarrassed to show my face in town again after that one. She didn't give any explanation for why she refused to pay. Come on- the service and food couldn't have been that bad.

On the slightly less embarrassing and odd side of things... Our very own Cape Canaveral was the site of something pretty historic. A texas guy paid millions to hitch a ride into space recently. The real historic part of it? It's the first time someone has followed a family member into space (his father was an astronaut). Check out the full story here. When you're done reading, why not hop on over to out MySpace page and say hi. We love new friends!

Still don't have plans for Halloween? Check back tomorrow to hear about some cool places to spend the evening. Later!

Event Alert!!!

There is a lot to do around here if you're visiting Florida (or
living here). The year's calendar is packed with events and one of
those is the Stone Crab, Seafood and Wine Festival. The event has
been here for almost two decades now and is held at Longboat Key,
Florida. This year, it's running from November 13th through the 16th.
If you're into good food and drink, this is going to be the place to
be. They have plenty of activities and good food planned for the
festival's run. One of the first will be Culinary Demonstrations on
the 14th and 15th. It's going to be a relaxed morning where you can
watch some of the best chefs prepare their specialties, each served
with just the right wine for it. The one downside is, they're only
letting 125 people into these demonstrations to keep up an intimate
feel. The cost to attend is $90.00.

Friday evening will be a little more expensive, but a lot more
exciting to people who love the nightlife. Chefs will use Florida
Stone Crab to make some of their favorite seafood meals. Like in the
morning, wines that are designed to go with the meals will get served
starting at 7 PM. The best part, though, is it will be held on the
beach and will feature a swimming pool and lots of live music. Going
to this one will cost you about $200.00.

Finally, there's going to be a Gala on the 15th where the chefs will

STRESS-FREE WEDDINGS choosing the right Limousine Service In Florida

STRESS-FREE WEDDINGS A wedding should be one of the happiest days of a personʼs life. Itʼs making a commitment to be with someone you love for the rest of your life. Still, it can also be very stressful. There is so much to think about: the dress, flowers, music, making sure warring relatives arenʼt sitting too close together. Itʼs enough to make a person think about forgetting the whole thing and investing in a ladder and a justice of the peace instead. If eloping isnʼt for you, there are several ways to get yourself through the process without going crazy. One of the most important factors is remembering that a wedding is supposed to be planned by the bride and groom- not the whole family. Politely thank anyone who offers a suggestion and let them know if you would rather do things another way. A1 Limobus has the right idea, Donʼt let anyone talk you into adding lots of expensive frills you might not be comfortable with. If they donʼt want to listen, or they are too critical of your plans, avoid them as much as possible and keep the details to yourself. Thereʼs no sense in allowing yourself to get caught up in petty arguments with someone who wants to take over the festivities. Make the planning process fun if you want to include others in it. Get a bunch of friends or family together in a casual setting with some music or a movie on and pour over those samples together while catching up on all the latest. It will create a very relaxed environment that will rub off on everyone. Just be sure at the end of the day to take some time alone or with your special someone to relax as well. Get some exercise in meditate or take a long bath to sooth yourself and recharge for another day of planning. Finally, hereʼs the most important tip: a wedding and a marriage are two different things. A wedding is just one day out of many and allowing yourself to get too caught up in making everything perfect sets a bad tone for the rest of the days to come. Itʼs a celebration of a union, nothing more. DUI: AN AVOIDABLE CRIMEKeifer Sutherland. Lindsay Lohan. Shia LeBeauf. At first look, these people donʼt seem to have much in common. They have different career paths, are in totally different types of shows and movies and one of them is also trying to be a singer. There is one thing they all have20in common, though. Each has been busted for DUI in the past year or so, with Shia being one of the more recent ones. It seems that this is a growing trend, especially in LA, and itʼs not just limited to the star set. In 2005, over 1 million people were arrested for DUI. For many, there are serious consequences to a charge like this. This includes fines, jail time and possibly losing everything they have. This is especially true if a person kills or injures someone in the process. There are steps, however, to stop something like this before it ever comes to that. The first, and most important, is planning for a night out. If you are going to be going out to a place where youʼll be drinking, bring a sober friend or family member along to get you home safely. You can also take a cab, public transportation or hire a limo driver. You can also look into services that provide safe rides home to drunk drivers. There are several out there now. Another way to avoid a problem is to look into getting an ignition interlock system. It tests a personʼs breath when they get into their car and keeps the car from starting if their blood alcohol level is above a certain number. When people are drunk, obviously they donʼt always realize it. Theyʼll resist giving up their keys, insisting they can make it home. Itʼs up to friends and family to be as calm and cool as possible to get the keys away. Theyʼll be more likely to give their keys up if the person trying to take them isnʼt yelling at them or arguing. Still, some are stubborn and no matter how nicely you try to handle the situation, they wonʼt give away their keys. In this case, if you want to make sure they get home safely, youʼll need to get the person distracted enough so you can sneak the keys away. If you are unable to get the keys away from a drunk person, do not get into the car with them and consider reporting them to local authorities. Drunk driving accidents can have tragic consequences, but are totally preventable if people take steps to protect themselves and others.

Downtown Disney

Downtown Disney is the premiere shopping and nighttime entertainment complex located inside Walt Disney World. There is no admission fee for entering Downtown Disney, and many families use Downtown Disney on their final day in Orlando as a chance to pick up last minute souvenirs and their last bit of Disney magic before heading home. Downtown Disney is split up into three sections: The Marketplace, Pleasure Island and The West Side.

The Marketplace

Most of Downtown Disney's stores are located in the Marketplace, an outdoor shopping mall. The main attraction is the World of Disney store, the largest Disney store in the world with over 50,000 square feet of merchandise. Almost every souvenir sold at Walt Disney World is found inside, besides those related to specific theme parks and rides. In the various rooms the magic of Disney is represented through huge sculptures, giant screens and even Audio-Animatronics. World of Disney is also home to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, a magical salon for girls wishing to become Disney princesses. Inside the salon girls can receive a complete makeover from a "fairy godmother in training." If you are on a budget, keep in mind that packages range from $45-$180. Booking in advance is essential to ensure an appointment. The reservation number is 407-939-7895. You will be asked to provide a credit card as a guarantee you will show up for your appointment. If you didn't get your Disney fix through World of Disney, there are many other Disney stores to visit as well. Disney's Days of Christmas celebrates yuletide all year long and sells ornaments, stockings, plush and other seasonal decorations. Disney's Wonderful World of Memories is a great place for scrapbook makers, with a large supply of craft related souvenirs, frames and books. This location is also the only place where you can get a Disney postmark on your postcards. The Art of Disney store sells high end Disney merchandise for the Disneyana fan including paintings and sculptures from talented artists. Even if you aren't a collector, it's well worth of visit to enjoy the wonderful artwork. Goofy's Candy Company is a wacky candy shop with all sorts of sugary sweets to sample. For those brave enough to tackle the sugar rush, the Oreo cookies with fudge center and elaborate toppings are heavenly. The budget-minded should head over to Mickey's Mart, where all merchandise is under ten dollars. Pooh Corner is geared toward the stroller set, with merchandise related to the classic characters of Winnie-the-Pooh as well as Playhouse Disney characters from the Disney Channel. Those with pets at home should enjoy Disney Tails, which features Disney merchandise for your pet including costumes. Catering to the new fad of pin collecting, Disney's Pin Traders offers a large selection of cloisonné Disney pins. Mickey's Pantry is a one stop shop for Disney themed kitchen supplies, including ice cube trays that make ice shaped as the famous mouse himself. Team Mickey is a large sport store, with both Disney and non-Disney items related to all things athletic. Once Upon a Toy is full of toys and games for the young and young at heart. There are other non-Disney stores at the Marketplace as well. Summer Sands is dedicated to the beach culture, and sells high end summer wear and Tommy Bahama Hawaiian shirts. At Basin, you can buy soaps and scrubs to pamper yourself with when you get back home. For the architect in all of us, the Lego Imagination Center is a large store dedicated to those wonderful colorful bricks. The impressively large sculptures outside the store made out of Lego are definitely worth a look over. At the Arribas Brothers glass shop, you can purchase beautiful works of crystal art. You can even get your crystal ware personalized from an artisan working at the shop. If you get hungry, there are also a few restaurants at the Marketplace as well. Rainforest Café immerses guests in a tropical rain forest, complete with animated figures and an occasional thunderstorm. Chocolate lovers will find heaven at Ghirardelli's Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop, which serves rich desserts and amazing ice cream sundaes. Delicious sandwiches, soups and salads can be found at The Earl of Sandwich. Pizza and pastas from the world famous chef Wolfgang Puck can be found at Wolfgang Puck Express. There's also a large McDonald's as well.

Pleasure Island

This area was once gated off and required admission to enter, now it's free to walk through but admission is required to enter the nightclubs. Parents with small children might prefer to avoid walking through Pleasure Island at night and instead take the path around it as Pleasure Island can get quite rowdy sometimes. There are five dance clubs including the Rock 'n Roll Beach Club, the 80s and 70s club 8 Trax, the top 40s club Motion, the hip-hop BET Soundstage Club and the techno-trance club Mannequins Dance Palace. There are also two comedy clubs. At the Comedy Warehouse, guests are treated to live improvisational humor and have an opportunity to affect the antics on stage. The most unique club on Pleasure Island is the Adventurer's Club. Inside you'll discover a bar themed to a 1930s gentlemen's club where costumed actors perform cabaret style shows and interact with the guests one-on-one. While the humor and atmosphere may not appeal to everyone's tastes, it is a very original concept and one-of-a-kind. There are a few shops at Pleasure Island, including one selling Harley Davidson merchandise. There's also Raglan Road, an Irish pub with good food and great live entertainment. We recommend making a reservation for Limo Service with Orlando Limo Rental to avoid run-in with the law after leaving Pleasure Island. Or you can check the GOAA “Greater Orlando Aviation Authority” for a list of permitted companies in Orlando.

The West Side

The West Side is home to many entertaining places to visit and dine at. The AMC 24plex Theater is a great place to see a first run movie while visiting the Walt Disney World resort. The two-story Virgin Megastore has a large collection of CDs, DVDs, books and related pop culture merchandise. At the House of Blues, you may enjoy a live concert from various bands that come through on tours. The world-famous Cirque du Soleil's La Nouba show features impressive acrobatic stunts combined with dazzling theatrical artistry. Hollywood memorabilia lines all the walls of the restaurant Planet Hollywood. Bongos Cafe presents diners with some delicious Cuban cuisine. There are many other shops, including a huge selection of magnets at Magnetron Magnetz, tricks and gags available at Magic Masters, all sorts of sweets at Candy Cauldron, and authentic American collectibles and memorabilia at Starabilias.

DisneyQuest

An attraction unto itself, DisneyQuest represents a more interactive side of Disney. Where most Disney attractions take you along for a ride, DisneyQuest features attractions that put the guests in control of the experience. Cyberspace Mountain lets you design a roller coaster and then actually ride it via a high-tech simulator. Music lovers can attempt to create a top 40 hit at Radio Disney Song Maker. The award winning Pirates of the Caribbean sends guests on an adventurous voyage complete with 3-D effects. On the Virtual Jungle Cruise, guests travel back in time and use paddles to virtually sail down a turbulent river filled with dinosaurs. In addition to the original attractions, DisneyQuest also features a large collection of arcade favorites, both past and present. Nearly all of the attractions inside DisneyQuest are included in the general admission price ($38.34 per adults and $31.95 per children), making it near nirvana for video game fans. To get there fast take a cheap limo ride or take a Tampa Taxi Service.

If you want to avoid crowds, do not visit Downtown Disney on Friday or Saturday nights, as many Orlando locals also use it as a nightspot. Downtown Disney is often a choice of guests on rainy days, but is honestly no better than a theme park to visit considering it's an open air environment. Downtown Disney has something for all age groups, but is probably best suited for pre-teens and older.

Prom Night, Advice From The Experts

Prom Night. For many students, it is one of the most important night of their academic life. For one night, they’re allowed to stay out almost as late as they want. It’s a celebration marking almost 4 full years of hard work and the beginning of the rest of the post-high school lives. For many, they have planned it almost from the day they first walked through the doors of their school
Unfortunately, it’s also an expensive night and some students have a hard time affording all the fancy extras that come with such a night. Others might want to do something more original for their big night. Well, there are plenty of options that are limited only by a person’s imagination. One way to make a night more special and personal is to throw your own party. Get a bunch of friends together and go to a place that has meant a lot to you during your 4 years together. Whether it’s a local park, a friend’s home or something else entirely, picking a more personalized location for a celebration will make the evening that much better and add to the many memories that were already made there
If you still wanna get all made up and go a bit more fancy, there are ways to do it without spending your entire savings. There are plenty of thrift stores no matter where you live that will surely have plenty of gorgeous dresses and suits for the occasion. Girls can spare some expense by getting together with their friends to be each other’s own hair dressers and make-up artists. The time spent getting ready also gives plenty of time to reminisce about funny things that happened during high school favorite things you did together. You can top it all off by having a bunch of you share a limo or a party bus. If everyone pays a portion of the rental, you can get a ride to remember without spending a fortune.

Some would rather have a more low-key evening. If that’s the case, you can organize a movie night or a late-night pool party. You can watch favorite movies, high-school themed ones or even hook up a stereo to play songs that were released during your high school years to play as you swim and hang out. Whatever you end up doing for the evening, remember that it is entirely up to you. It’s your night, so make it one you will remember.
